THROW PILLOW INSERT CHEAT SHEET
WHY DO I HAVE FLAT THROW PILLOWS?
You probably have the wrong size pillow insert. Pillow inserts are like bras; most of us have purchased the wrong size at least once and were left with the lackluster feeling of knowing it isn't quite right but unsure how to fix it. Today, we’re fixing it with my Throw Pillow Insert Cheat Sheet.
WHAT SIZE INSERT SHOULD I BUY?
I’m keeping it simple with a Throw Pillow Insert Cheat Sheet graphic around one rule: buy throw pillow inserts two inches larger than the decorative pillow cover. YES, you heard me. I tell clients this all the time, and I’m always surprised how many haven’t heard of this.
TYPES OF THROW PILLOW INSERTS
Feather down is my preferred insert material due to the overall comfort, body, and firmness. There’s a range of feather-down ratios on the market, but I always use either 95/5 or 90/10 for my home and client projects, with a synthetic down option as a hypoallergenic alternative.
95% Feather / 5% Down (95/5)
Firm Density
Widely Available
Cost-effective due to the higher percentage of feathers and a lower percentage of down.
The higher feather percentage can cause the inserts to have a feather poking out from time to time.
90% Feather / 10% Down (90/10)
Medium Density
Higher priced than the 95/5 ratio due to the increased amount of down.
Less of a chance of feathers poking out than the 95/5 option.
Synthetic Down
Synthetic down pillows are a hypoallergenic option made with polyester fibers to simulate down.
Widely available
Cost-effective
