4 Chairs | Table between 48” x 38” and 54” x 38”
6 Chairs | Table between 60” x 38” and 72” x 40”
8 Chairs | Table between 84” x 40” and 102” x 40”
10 Chairs | Table between 108” x 40” and 120” x 40”
ELBOW ROOM OVER CHAIR WIDTH
My general rule of thumb for determining the number of chairs for a dining table is to allow 24” x 15” per place setting - including the flatware, glassware, and a plate. What matters is the elbow room rather than the width of the chair.
Remember to factor in the placement of table legs when determining the seating capacity of a dining table. The tabletop's dimensions alone may not provide an accurate representation of the available seating space if the legs are positioned awkwardly or at an extreme angle.
